Magosto 2011

The Magosto is a traditional Galician holiday that exalts the withdrawal of the crop of the chestnut, which proliferates in November. It is for it, which is realized in the days understood between November 1 (All the Saints) and November 11 (St Martin).
 It is a pagan Celtic celebration related to the worship to the fertilization, and of there the direct relation with the fire, representing to the Sun, God fecundador of the land. Later it was associated with the saints and with the deceased, because of it it is feasted on November 1, for being the food that symbolizes the death of the solar annual cycle.

They prepare bonfires by fuelwood of heather to roast the chestnuts newly quiet. Also it is common to get blackened the face with the remains of the bonfire, to jump the bonfires since it brings luck and to realize different traditional games, to tell stories and to sing popular songs.
 Also it is typical to roast meat of pork and sausages, and to accompany it on new wine of the crop.
 It is a gastronomic holiday that is realized in all the peoples, villages and Galician cities and that tries to claim the customs and popular traditions.
